Who are we?
Qalhwanqax is a word in the Totonac language, the original language of our region. Polysemic in origin it can refer to the echo, to sound waves, to the physical waves of a water well when a leaf falls on the water mirror or to the undulations on the inside of an endemic mushroom. For us, Qalhwanqax is the essence of a centre of knowledge that constructs concepts from diverse cultural references, as in the case of this visual and symbolic onomatopoeia that epistemologically distances itself from the constructions of western culture.
Qalhwanqax is an academic group of the Intercultural University of the state of Puebla in Mexico.

Qalhwanqax is a possibility for linguistic activism, both within and outside our region. We seek to strengthen mother tongues, with an emphasis on native languages, highlighting the changes and transformations in the use of language for its re-signification.
