IKIKO wishes to facilitate the mixing between the fields of culture, communication, languages, hegemonies, international relations, popular identities and similar dimensions, with the motivation of learning how to build a fairer world through non-hegemonic practices among people.

Therefore, the main themes that you will be able to see, or use for contributions, will be related to these dimensions of life. Some concretisations are listed below. The aim is not to exhaust all possibilities but to reduce the abstraction of IKIKO’s general objectives by means of themes and examples.

  • Community identity in hegemonic contexts. How do communities that share a culture, a history and a language survive, suffer or grow stronger within regional, state or global hegemonies?
  • Cultural competence. Models and experiences of situations where individuals and groups from different cultures share time, space and goals. This is not only about specialists in health care, work or education, but also about experiences in love or friendship relationships in multicultural groups.
  • Challenges around migration. Problems, challenges and possibilities in relation to the presence of migrants with other migrants and locals. Language and cultural policies.
  • Cultural challenges of translation or culturally sensitive translation.
  • Linguistic justice and inequality. Language policy, language oppression, inequality in relations between language communities, positive experiences, solutions, models.
  • Opportunities, problems and challenges in education systems in relation to multiculturalism, concrete or successful experiences in schools. Political programmes.
  • International relations, hegemonies, balance relations, cultural and linguistic barriers, adaptations, resistance.
  • Global oppression in language and culture. Strategies and realities of local culture, individuals, families, institutions. Disappearance and resistance of linguistic and cultural identities.
  • Communication layers, dimensions, styles, models, experiences… in relation to situations where people from different countries, cultures, languages participate.
